Dr. Sandy Miles, SPHR, GPHR


Board Member

Dr. Sandy Jeanquart Miles is the Hutchens Distinguished Professor in the Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business at Murray State University. Miles earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay, and her Masters and Doctorate degrees from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She is certified as a Senior Professional of Human Resources (SPHR), and Global Professional of Human Resources (GPHR), and has earned the distinction of Academic Fellow, through the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) in London, U.K.

Miles teaches undergraduate and graduate human resource management courses as well as conducts research in the strategic human resource management area. She has received numerous requests for her research as well as speaking engagements from around the globe. Her research also earned her an invitation to serve on the Advisory Board for Business Horizons, Indiana University’s premier publication.

In addition to being a current HRCI board member, she was one of the first members to serve on the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for International Organization for standardization (ISO), Technical Committee (TC) 260. ISO TC 260 was commissioned with setting global standards in the human resource management area in 2011. She has been an elected delegate to represent HR interests for the U.S. since its inception. She was elected by the ISO TC 260 to lead the work group of global recruitment experts representing over 20 different countries to publish one of the first global standards (ISO 30405: Recruitment) as well as being an active participant in the human governance standards and metrics working groups. Miles is also one of nine global experts commissioned with advising the ISO TC 260 Chair through the ISO/TC 260 Chairman’s Advisory Group (CAG).

At the national level, Miles was elected to serve as Vice Chair for the ISO TC 260 U.S. TAG in 2015, and was elected in 2017 to Chair the U.S. TAG which includes duties of the Head of Delegation at the ISO TC 260 Plenary meetings. Her global expertise and experience, also earned her an invitation to serve on the Education Committee for the World Trade Center KY. In 2017, her global contributions, expertise and research earned the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who’s Who. Miles strives to enhance all facets of the human resource management profession through teaching, research, and partnering with organizations and initiatives dedicated to the advancement of the HR profession and practice.
